A Patients Story: Daniel

I met Daniel at U.C.D Medical Center over a year or so ago and then by chance at S.H.H.C. a few months ago. Back then he introduced himself to me as a cancer patient. He was there seeing a physical therapist after recovering from chemo trying to fight for his life from an extremely virulent form of cancer that had spread to his throat and neck. I found him to be quiet but strong for he had been through hell and back. He told me many times how he was so grateful for marijuana and that it was legal to use for compassionate purposes for he, like many other patients I have met, never used marijuana before they fell ill and like most had many questions about it for they all were brought up to believe that marijuana was a bad drug that did bad things. I too remember all the psycho babble about it when I was young. So with most new patients it’s often common, as in Daniels case, about their concerns about it’s use at first but then upon taking it after finding no other way to relieve the pain or sickness and for some it was there final choice and for someone as conservative as him he told me it took the first week of chemo and that’s all it took to try anything to help him with the nausea and vomiting. He added one time that when he had dropped so much weight he started putting kief in his drinks and he would sip just a little amount during the day and that would help tremendously with his appetite as well as wanting to drink something and to be able to hold it down better then any other medicines his doctors prescribed.

Since he can’t smoke, he chooses to medicate with Tinctures, Balms, and Edibles. “I love the banana nut bread and the brownies. I cut them up in tiny bite size pieces because most of the time thats allĀ  I can barely get down my throat . I soften them for easy swallowing with milk or juice or water. I really love the Sweet Relief drinks . I think they are a bit too sweet so I just add more water to the mix. I use the balms for when I want to sleep well and for my body that’s so sore. I rub it on all over and it lasts for a long time. I sleep like a baby and wake up relaxed and not feeling groggy. When I started I had no idea of how much to take or how to use it. The staff at S.H.H.C. were helpful and helped me make the choices to facilitate a program of relief from my dealing with cancer day in and day out. I tried marinol at first but it made me feel nervous and edgy those were 15 mg pills but even at”.

The last time I spoke with Daniel was he told me he was stoking up on medicalĀ  for he was to start again on chemo for another couple of horrible weeks of enduring hell. What a brave soul I thought to myself. What he must have to endure Daniels suffering is another reason why I support m.m. for it is true compassion in the form of a plant and its healing attributes.

The Story of James : His Story

his name is not James but we will call him that for the story . his story. it is august the last week . the last days of summer have been incredibly hot for Sacramento for having such an easy summer . what i mean by that is most summers begin in july ,as in the first of July. breaking in sweltering heat triple digit torture for 3 to 4 long months in an oven . however we are blessed with the Delta breeze. thank creator for that one for sure.

back to the story James used to be in a local gang . as he put it you do what you have to do when ones environment dictates that which decides your life and death. ..

it was last year when James and three other friends gang members were out at a local eatery when some rivals from south of here came driving by in a car. one of them noticed one of the gang members and before they had a chance to do anything shots were fired and down went James while the others fled.

James spent several weeks in the hospital fighting for his life. when he was released he suffered from really bad head aches due to a shot to his head that now leaves a scar brazenly across most of the right side of his head. speaking with a bit of a speech impediment he feels that between the pain in his head to his spasms down his leg the only method to treat these problems that works for James is medical marijuana.

James told me that he prefers indicas for their pain softening attributes and hashish or kiefs for anxiety that he suffers from ptsd back lash the shooting incident.” when i smoke “James says” it puts a dulling blanket that lessons the pain greatly. the pills i was prescribed by my doctors were actually slowing down the healing process .. i was able to cut back on most of my meds and find that i am feeling and performing better then when i was on all those pills. pills for this pills fpr that.i finely said no to them and yes to medical.

James is 23 years old and lives in the greater Sacramento area. his favorite smoke is l.a. confidential and his hash he prefers full melt for its sleeping effects and fresh taste and beneficial pain lessening qualities.. james is now working in the community to help raise awareness to gang violence and working with others to find solutions to the problems that face most young people today.
